Game #1 Cleveland Browns @ San Francisco 49ers
This game ushered in the Season 2 era and turned out to be rather anti climactic. The 49ers torched the Browns defense repeatedly, and blew out the Browns 17-0.

Game #6. Los Angeles Raiders @ Denver Broncos
A slew of interceptions by Steve Buereline leads to the most lopsided blow out at the time in our storied history. The Broncos clobber the Raiders 45-3 behind an avalanche of turnovers and Denver having a short field to work with often. Raiders owner Al Davis later said it wasn't even as close as the score.
Game #8. Chicago Bears @ San Francisco 49ers
In a back and forth game, the 49ers Spencer Tillman got a huge kick return to open the game, taking it deep into Bears territory. The 49ers scored soon afterward. Chicago came back with Anderson running for a couple scores and a 13-7 lead. Charles Haley forced a missed extra point. Tillman then got a kick return touch down to put San Francisco up 14-13.

Game #11. Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants
This will forever go down as the original “Punt-Sack” game. The Giants score a TD late in the 3rd for a commanding 14-6 lead. 2 score lead & Lawrence Taylor equals game over right? James Jefferson takes the kick return deep into Giants territory and Seattle gets a touch down. 14-13 the Giants still lead. Phil Simms and the offense stalls and goes to punt midway through the 4th. Bill Parcells calls for some stalling on the punt by letting the meter cycle through a few times to eat clock, but the ploy explodes in his face.
A Seahawk defender miraculously breaks through the line and tackles Sean Landeta. Seattle takes over around the Giants 35. A mad offensive flurry ensues and Seattle takes an improbable 20-14 lead late in the 4th. Dave Meggett however gets some key blocks during the KR on his way to the endzone, leaving just a few ticks on the clock. Game Over! The New York Giants escape disaster and win 21-20.
Game #20. Dallas Cowboys @ Los Angeles Raiders
Nate proclaims that he can crush Dallas with any team other than Washington. We put his boasting to the test. A great defensive stand all game by the Cowboys, and 2 --count em -- 2 Mike Dixon kick return touchdowns later and Dallas cruises to an easy 24-6 whooping of the Raiders. That was the first time we had ever seen a guy return it to the house twice in a game of Tecmo Bowl.
Game #22. New York Giants @ San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 42 New York 6. Forty two freaking points on the New York Giants defense! It was an old fashion butt whoppin' of epic proportions. Joe Montana to Jerry Rice destroyed the Giants defense most all game long, It might have been a shut out, but Dave Meggett's kick return touch down in the 2nd half gave the Giants their only score.

Game # 44. Washington Redskins @ New York Giants
This game kicks off Season 2 for us, and Washington comes in a big under dog. 26 combined play picks, 4 NYG turnovers, along with a short field all game and WSH cruises 21-2.
Game # 48 Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Raiders
Bo Jackson & the Raiders break out to a 14-0 lead in the 2nd qtr. A Leo Lewis kick return inside the Raiders 20 late in the half looks promising for the Vikings, but Howie Long gets an interception to preserve the lead. Minnesota starts the 3rd quarter with an excellent drive and gets 7, followed by a Scott Studwell interception and 7 more, resulting in a 14 point 3rd qtr! After a Raider field goal, The Vikings get into field goal range late in the 4th but Howie snags another interception to win the game 17-14. |
Game # 50 Dallas Cowboys @ Miami Dolphins
Dallas hung tough thanks to a long drive for a TD. Mike Dixon had a kick return inside the Miami 30 to get a field goal just as the 1st half expired, and only trailed 10-9. With the Cowboys receiving the 2nd half kick off, a possible upset looked to be in the works. However, in the 2nd half Aikman tossed a couple interceptions and the Dolphins roll 24-9.
Game # 51 Seattle Seahawks @ Cleveland Browns
This game featured an all time classic finish. With Cleveland trailing by 6 late in the 4th, Bernie Kosar engineered a long drive using quick pass plays. Down inside the red zone, Kosar hit Webster Slaughter for a quick pass & he rapidly pulled away from the defender. For fear of being caught from behind with time expiring, he ran out of bounds with 1 second left just inside the 5. It looked like a questionable decision, because when Webster turned up field it looked like he was gone for the touchdown. On the last play of the game, Seattle defensive coordinator Tom Catlin rolled out a play-pick with his call and the game was over. Seahawks wins by a hair 13-7. Just another classic game by these 2 rivals.

Standard stuff from these guys….a back and forth battle that featured 2 Mike Singletary extra point blocks, & the 49ers Michael Cofer hits a field goal in the 4th for a 1 point lead. With little time remaining, the Bears get into what should be field goal range from about the 15, but Charles Haley comes through and blocks the kick for the win at the gun. The 49ers win it 15-14.

The 49ers easily roll to a 14-0 halftime lead and gets the ball to start the 2nd half. What lie ahead was one of the most masterful defensive efforts in Tecmo history. San Francisco's offensee goes in the tank with a dry run for the rest of the game over their next 5 possessions. Meanwhile Seattle ties it up early in the 4th thanks to a Joe Montana interception. In O.T. Seattle wins the toss and they trade punts with the 49ers until Seattle converts a 4th and 1 from around their 40-yard line. After that, the spirit of the 49ers gets crushed and eventually John L Williams breaks off a couple big runs to score a touch dow and a 21-14 win. The largest come from behind win in Tecmo Bowl.
Game # 61 New York Giants @ Los Angeles Raiders
Bo gets the better of Lawrence Taylor, juking him to no end and just making him look plain silly early in the game. After allowing an early TD, the Giants gets a couple field goals to tie it up, and then late in the 4th Lawrence Taylor gets an interception and Allegre kicks the game winner. Bo easily won the battle, but LT and the Giants won the war 9-6.

Washington comes in as a HUGE underdog but jumps out to a quick 10-0 lead in the 2nd qtr. San Francisco rallies thanks to converting a 3rd and 8 at the WSH 30 to take a 14-10 lead. Midway through the 4th, Washington turns the ball over on downs near midfield and the massive upset bid finally loses steam. SF tacks on 7 more and wins 21-10.

Frank Minnifield pulls in THREE 1st half interceptions including one in the endzone and the Browns holds onto a 3-0 lead at the break. However, Mike Singletary provides the necessary stranglehold style defense to keep the Bears in the game. The 2nd half sees Chicago finally break through with a Neal Anderson touch down in the 3rd. Bahr nails a FG late 3rd qtr to make the score 7-6 after 3. Neal Anderson blows the game wide open running for 2 more TD’s and Chicago rolls 21-6. Green also ran back 2 kickoffs into CLE territory. The final score did this game no justice. |
Game #83 Denver Broncos @ Cleveland Browns
Clay Matthews decides he’s fast enough to block a FG attempt from the 25. That translates to 3 points for Cleveland. With time running down in the 2nd qtr, Frank Minifield pulls in a non play-pick interception and trucks it 60 yards for a touch down. Possibly the longest one of those We've ever seen. The Browns lead 10-0. Bobby Humphrey takes over and pulls Denver back to tie it up, but Eric Metcalf came to play in the 4th qtr and runs all over Denver. Big day by the Cleveland defense overall. Cleveland's defensive coordinator Dan Radakovich had the squad ready to play as numerous players made huge open field tackles.

Chicago came back with Anderson running to a 13-7 lead (missed a point after). Tillman then got a kick return touch down to put San Francisco up 14-13. Chicago countered with another TD late in the 4th to take a 6 point lead, but Tillman took another kick return deep into Bears territory where San Fran quickly scored. With just a few seconds left on the clock, Singletary blocked the pat to keep the score tied. In over time, the Bears marched down the field thanks to Anderson’s running and got the TD, to win 27-20.

SF’s offense comes firing out the gate and takes a 14-0 lead at the break. SF starts the 3rd qtr with a drive taking 1:15 (!) off the clock and settles for a FG. DEN scores a TD afterwards but can’t do anymore. 17-7. DEN’s first loss in Japan bizzaro tecmo and the last team to be beaten. DEN at the time of this defeat was entering the discussion of being a legit super power.

Inside the CHI 10 and facing 4th and short and trailing early in the 4th DAL kicks a FG to pull within 1. DAL had all the momentum and things looked bad for CHI with a lot of time left, but Green saves the day and takes the kick to the house for the 14-6 win. Nate kept saying during the game “you gotta believe in miracles”.

With SF driving deep, Brooks picks off pass intended for Rice. Denver was unable to run out the clock and gave SF once last chance, but Mecklenburg gets a 2nd INT to finally put the dagger in.
