Tecmo Bowl features a collection of great players from 12 notable NFL franchises of the mid to late 1980’s. No two teams are created equal in Tecmo Bowl. Each team possesses players with varying abilities at different positions. Each team has a unique playbook along with distinct strengths & weaknesses on offense, defense & special teams.
When it comes to game-play Tecmo Bowl ultimately shines in a highly competitive 2 player mode. Each match-up in Tecmo Bowl is dynamic and features many different components that will play a role in the final outcome. Tecmo Bowl was the 1st game of its kind to obtain rights from the NFL Player’s Association. The superstars of the National Football League such as Bo Jackson, & Lawrence Taylor were featured by name. These 2 along with other NFL stars took center stage as the best players in Tecmo Bowl. Tecmo however did not obtain the rights to use the NFL team names & their official logos. Each team was identified only by it's city and logo that Tecmo created for them.
Each team was constructed similarly to their 1980s NFL counterpart. The San Francisco 49ers are one of the best offensive teams in Tecmo Bowl. The New York Giants, Chicago Bears, & Washington Redskins have many powerful & fast defenders making them strong defensive teams. These programming attributes helped each team mirror the abilities of their NFL counterpart at that time. |
